The process of separating the gold from the dross, the fine from the gross, or the profound from the profane is the very foundation upon which the practice of arcane alchemy is built. Unfortunately, what many students of such topics fail to understand is the fact that alchemy is not merely a barbaric or superstitious precursor to modern chemistry. In fact, it is modern chemistry that is found lacking when compared to alchemy as it embraces only the science and discards the wisdom.
While the outward appearance of historical alchemy may seem so, the esoteric art has little to do
with chemicals, compounds, or formulas. Instead of measurable science, alchemy is comprised
of the deeper essence of personal transformation, especially in regards to refining that which is
currently base into that which can become transcendent. The fabled search for the philosophers
stone which was reputed to be able to transmute lead into gold was more an exploration of the soul than a scientific research project. The actual process of the alchemist’s experimentation was (and is) a physical metaphor for the inner journey. This sublime alchemical approach is the absolute heart of Apotheosis.
While the mechanisms that support and drive this universal clockwork are complex, its basic
functions mirror the simplistic cycles and patters of nature and mythology;
1. In nature, the seed is at first merely another biological extension of the tree along
with all of the other seeds, branches, leaves, roots, etc. Only once the seed has
broken free of the tree can it grow to become a tree itself.
2. In mythology, the hero is at first one of the common people who, one day, realizes
his destiny and rises up above the mundane to work great miracles.
The Cosmology of Apotheosis asserts that all living beings are originally linked in a grand spiritual network. However, there arise opportunities for rare and particularly strong willed facets of this cosmic life force to separate from the whole and begin or continue the process of spiritual evolution.
As an axiom, all religions are a specific type of spiritual tradition. However, this does not mean all
spiritual traditions are necessarily religious. In other words, by definition, all religions must address matters of the spirit, while not all matters of the spirit include the qualities which define religion (i.e. deity, moral tenet, and ethnicity).
Therefore, it can be understood that Apotheosis is a tradition intimately relative to the spiritual
essence of its practitioners, yet does not promote religious belief. To be more precise, Apotheosis
is a spiritual tradition designed to promote personal spiritual evolution through the ritual attunement of the life force with various universal archetypes. The initial goal of this evolution is to assist the individual personality break free from the universal whole (awaken). The secondary objective is to strengthen this newly become singular being and continue the process of ascension.
